Ok, so I have some news. I’m expecting a little boy, and he due on January 23rd! We are very excited to be adding to our family, although I’m not sure what I’m going to do with two boys running around.
Secondly, on to the bad news… sadly, it was discovered in my 20-week ultrasound that I have a condition called placenta previa , which occurs in 1 in 200 pregnancies. Placent previa is when the placenta is near or covering the cervix. In my case, it is completely covering the cervix. There was no rhyme or reason for why this happens, it just happens. Sometimes it corrects itself, however in my situation (complete previa), the chances of that happening are slim.
So, what does this mean for me and my business:
- There is a 50/50 chance of bleeding, so I may end up bleeding, in which case I would have to go on bedrest. If they can’t stop the bleeding, I would have to deliver the baby prematurely.
- I need to take things easy to reduce the chances of ending up on bedrest. It’s not foolproof, however any rest will help. This also means no lifting or lots of time on my feet. As hard as it is, I have stopped carrying and lifting my 2-year-old son.
- Typically, the bleeding doesn’t start until the end of the 2nd trimester/beginning of the 3rd trimester, which is the end of October/early November.
I’m currently in the process of sorting out my remaining weddings for the year. I thought I had everything planned out with this pregnancy, however I guess sometimes God has a sense of humor. 😉
This also means that I will be trying to get in all of my holiday portrait sessions in September, October, & early November in case I were to end up on bedrest. That way, I can make sure anyone who is interested in having a portrait done by me this year gets taken care of. I will be saving the end of November & December for new inquiries & my “Watch Me Grow” clients, if I am not yet on bedrest. So, I guess what I’m trying to say is if you had plans for scheduling a session, your best bet is to schedule it now.
Whew! That should do it! Stay tuned for more updates. Oh, and here is a picture of our little guy! I think he looks like my son, even in this 19 week ultrasound picture. Crazy stuff!
