Doug & Kathy tied the knot (finally!) on Saturday, June 30th. They are an older couple with a very unique and special story to tell. In a nutshell, they have known each other since middle school, dated for 10 years around high school and after high school, then broke up and lost touch for a while. They never stopped thinking about each other during that time and about 1 1/2-2 years ago, he sent her a birthday card. That birthday card rekindled their romance and here they are today, married! When they told me this story when we first met, I knew these two had to be soul mates, if you believe in that kind of thing. 🙂
Here are my favorites from their day!
Kathy going to see one another for the first time.
While we were taking this shot, Doug explained to me that they looked and looked for the perfect ring for Kathy, but just couldn’t find it. They finally decided to customize their own ring. I think they designed it beautifully.
Kathy called me the Monday before her wedding to let me know that her dad had a stroke. What an unfortunate situation to happen the week before your wedding! By some miracle, her dad was able to make it there, walk her down the aisle, and “party” with them at the reception. I was told that he gets a little emotional sometimes. Here is a good depiction of that emotion he showed while trying to take a picture of him with his daughter.
The couple didn’t have a “reception”, but rather a “party”. I loved the way they had their hall decorated! These stuffed animals hanging from the ceiling were all from thrift shops!
I purchased a new ultra-wide angle lens a couple of weeks prior to this wedding. Here are a few fun reception shots with my new lens. Needless to say, I really like the shots I can get with the wider-angle.
WARNING TO ALL VEGETARIANS AND ANIMAL LOVERS! What you are about to see may be a little graphic. No, I’m really serious. I’m one who loves meat… all kinds of meat. I was a little taken aback by the pig on the spit (Catered by Divine Swine, if anyone is wondering). It really did add to the theme of their party, though. Both my husband & I thought that the best part of it was that they left the sticker on the apple.
